Frank Ocean - Thinkin Bout You

After what he revealed to the world, this song means so much more to me now because I’m able to relate to this song in its truest sense. To know that we’re the same age, and we experienced the pangs of heartache from a boy also at the same age really connected me to him and his music. Opening up about something very personal like unrequited love, let alone his sexuality, speaks a lot about his courage and bravery. And because of that, I am more empowered and proud to be who I really am. I finally have someone my age, and someone who’s like me, to look up to. I have nothing but respect and love for his fearlessness and amazing talent. He is my hero.

James Blake - A Case of You

A Case of You by Joni Mitchell is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time, from her album Blue, which also my favorite album of all time. This amazing song has been done countless times by artists like Tori Amos, Michelle Branch, K.D. Lang, and even by The Decemberists and Prince. So far, my favorite cover of this song was done by Diana Krall from her Live at Paris album. Now that this James Blake cover exists, this is definitely my new favorite out of the bunch. Joni would be so proud of this.

Marié Digby

Me and my friend went to see Marie Digby perform a small gig at a new mall opening event here in Cebu. She’s unbelievably beautiful in real life. And she sounds so amazing live. But what’s so funny about this is whole thing is that she performed in the middle of a Grocery Store while people are shopping around her. It’s very weird, but I really enjoyed her performance. And I agree Marie, It should have been a proper show.

Up Dharma Down / Artwork 5x5

Yesterday, Artwork celebrated its 5th Anniversary in Cebu with the Artwork 5x5 event with live music by Up Dharma Down, and a t-shirt exhibit featuring 5x5 t-shirt designers at Ayala Center Cebu.

Truth be told, I really wasn’t after the shirts, (although they’re all very awesome especially the metronome shirt which I will get soon) I was more excited to see Up Dharma Down live, for the first time! It’s been a while since they last came here so this opportunity to see them live in my own backyard was perfect. If there’s one OPM act that I’ve always loved since day one, it’s definitely Up Dharma Down. That night they performed my favorites like Taya, Sana, Oo and Tadhana. And they sound perfectly amazing live.

After I had a photo with Armi, I felt very gutted after I turned down her invitation to watch their gig at Handuraw later that evening, which is a million times better than the one hour set they performed earlier. Her cute frown and her beautiful freckled face will forever be etched in my memory. Nonetheless, I had an amazing time watching them perform live. I’m really looking forward to seeing them again. Also, a huge thank you to Artwork for bringing Up Dharma Down here in Cebu.

P.S. Armi looks absolutely divine in the first photo, right?

Ryann Meets Armi
This me and Armi Millare of Up Dharma Down at the Cebu leg of Artwork 5x5 at Ayala Center Cebu a while ago. I was able to chat with her a bit (Like 20 seconds! Haha!) and she’s really nice in person. Also, they’re so amazing live.
Will post more photos, and a live video of my favorite Up Dharma Down song, soon.

Bruno Mars Live in Cebu

As you all may know, my brother and I got tickets to see Bruno Mars Live in concert here in Cebu. And to say that we had a blast was definitely an understatement. He had a killer set list and I absolutely love the arrangements on the songs. And most importantly, he sounds amazing live. And just like any newbie concert goer, I tried my best to record some of my favorite parts, like the song Count on Me as shown above. My camera wasn’t allowed in the venue, hence the low quality ipod touch video. We only had “standing only” tickets so my feet was so sore after. But seeing him perform live in the flesh, in all his musical glory, definitely made it all worth it.

Lykke Li - Love Out of Lust

I’d rather die in your arms than die lonesome
I’d rather die high than die hollow…
We will live longer than I will
We will be better than I was

Adele - Don’t You Remember

I know I have a fickle heart and bitterness,
And a wandering eye, and a heaviness in my head.
But don’t you remember, don’t you remember?
The reason you loved me before.

Death Cab For Cutie - The New Year

So this is the New Year and I have no resolutions
For self assigned penance
For problems with easy solutions

Rosi Golan - Hazy (feat. William Fitzsimmons)

What if I fall and hurt myself?
Would you know how to fix me
What if I went and lost myself?
Would you know where to find me

Robyn - Hyperballad

This Björk cover is absolutely beautiful.
