This is Barry Weinberg

He is 21 years old. He studies East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University Majoring in Chinese Politics and Economics. He’s from Indianapolis, Indiana but lives with my cousin in New York City.

And Just like any other student studying anything related to East Asia, one must visit the said region to further understand what they’re studying. He went to Beijing, China for two months. And last week was the end of this stay in China. But before going back to New York, he decided to make a stop here in the Philippines, specifically Bacolod City and Cebu.

He stayed here for about three days, and it was really nice having him around. I really enjoyed all our conversations together. One thing I’m most impressed by him, wits and intelligence aside, is that he’s so different from most of the Americans I know, or I’ve seen on mainstream media, and even in tumblr. Which is definitely a good thing. Probably why my cousin likes him so much.

Sometimes I wonder how my life is if money was out of the question and I could just decide right away to visit a foreign country anytime I want. So much for day dreams. Anyway he said he was going back here on January with my relatives. I’m definitely looking forward to that.

White Washed

Yesterday, I had the utmost pleasure of doing a photo shoot my very good friend Reymund Claridad. We worked our way around this to draw inspiration for the shoot. The white blazer and the shorts are his own designs, while the boots are from People Are People. He styled his look all by himself. All I really did was direct him, which wasn’t so hard to do since he’s already very good at this. While shooting him, I can tell that he didn’t like the idea of letting him sit in the ground. But it turned out to be his favorite photos from the shoot. I really enjoyed doing this with him. Now I can’t wait to get on with my next project.

Hype this look in his lookbook.

April dela Cruz

I met up with my good friend April dela Cruz several days ago. And I was so drawn to what she was wearing that I couldn’t help but take photos of her entire outfit. It’s very simple, very chic and very cohesive. She really pulled it off. But what’s more amazing about her is that she doesn’t even own a single fashion magazine and doesn’t care for fashion blogs. So I guess it’s true that personal style will always stand out over following trends.

Kathleen Hernandez

I had the utmost privilege to do a little photo shoot my good friend, Kathleen. Or as I would like to call her, Pia. It was very impromptu and it wasn’t a totally serious shoot, but we had lots of fun doing it. This girl has so much potential, so you better watch out for her.

With a Little Help from My Friends

These are some of the photos I took of my amazing friends last week. Featuring from top to bottom: Maica, Kohei, Eunice, Gezeene, Clair and Keisuke. I really love hanging out with them. I can always count on them to make my day a whole lot better. Hurray for super awesome friends.

Let the Good Times Roll

Last night I went out with my good old college friends Clair, Eunice, Dianne, Gezeene and Maica. The latter 3 had their boyfriends along with them. And I was basking in my singularity as per usual. But it was all good. We had a simple dinner out and a trip to the Karaoke Bar with a dash of alcohol thrown in for good measure. You know, nothing fancy but I really had a good time. It was really nice to catch up. Laughing with them. And even laughing at them. I never get to do that anymore, now that I have work and other things to attend to. Good times. I can’t to see them all again.

Birthday Girls

Three of my college girl friends namely, Birthday Girl #1 Eunice, Birthday Girl #2 Clair and Birthday Girl #3 Haney, had their birthdays on the month of November. So to save time and money, and since we’re all too busy from work and school, we decided to celebrate it together.

It was really nice to see them all together again, especially now that April and Gezeene finally showed up. Haha. It was a breath of fresh air to see all of them look so good. Everyone looked so easy, breezy, beautiful! But nothing has really changed, they’re still as crazy, as loud and as naughty as I first knew them way back in college.

Of course, get together’s like this is never complete without the traditional “Walking Aimlessly Around the Mall”…

and the countless photos…

…of Maica, haha! After all that, we had dinner at Pizza Hut, courtesy of birthday girl #3. It was very simple, but it was the thought of being with them again that really mattered the most that day. I can’t wait to see you girls again.

P.S. Happy Birthday Eunice, Clair and Haney! xx

Saturday Follies

Yesterday I went out with Clair, Maica and Haney. My week is never complete without having dinner or just simply hanging out with them.

We seem to be crazier and crazier when we’re together. A good laugh with them is always a guarantee, especially from all the People Watching. I never get to do that at work.

Despite the fact that I had a super rough week, they never fail to remind me that everything is going to be alright, because we’ll always have Saturday to ourselves.

The photo below is a representation of Haney. She was on full-on Law Student mode. And she never peeled off from her notes all night. But it was alright, the fact that she went with us even though she had her final exams tomorrow means so much to us. I hope you ace your test!

After that I had a very long ang meaningful conversation with Maica on our way home. I never really get to talk about my love life, or the lack of it. It’s very enlightening to get to hear evidence-based wisdom especially from someone who’s been through a lot.

It’s alway a joy to have them around. Despite the very different paths we chose to take, I’m glad that the friendship is still alive. I can’t wait to see them again next next week.

Last Night was Dynamite

So last night I was torn between going out with my friends from work and staying in to finish a book. I’m not really the kind of person who looks forward to night out’s because I am and will be socially awkward forever. I’d rather curl up in bed and read and/or watch an old movie. But after giving it much thought and one bottle of Tanduay Ice later, I decided to go out.

It’s weird because I never really liked those club music that gets lots of radio airplay. But when you’re under the strobe lights and dancing the night away, it all suddenly makes sense. Lyrics like “I throw my hands up in the air” will really make you throw your hands up in the air. Dance music really sound a million times better when you’re bump and grinding in the dance floor.

Aside from the throbbing headache I had after we left the club, I was Carpe diem-ing the heck out of that day. I don’t want to get into detail about this but, amazing things really do happen when you least expect it.
